PREPARATION
Transfer the design: onto the watercolor paper. The best way is to use a lightbox and a pencil. However, you could tape the design and watercolor paper to a window and trace it (be sure the lights are off inside—it works like a lightbox), OR use graphite transfer paper and lightly trace the design.
Mask out the whites: Mask all the areas that stay white on the flower petals. Follow the “Masking Diagram” to place the fluid in the correct areas, which are darkened for you.
WHAT IS MASKING FLUID? Masking fluid prevents paint from going into the paper so when it is erased, the paper remains white. Protect your brush from the masking fluid with soap. Use a brush and work it back and forth on the soap until all the water in the brush has been used. Leave the soap in the brush while using the masking fluid, then rinse it thoroughly. Paint the masking fluid onto the paper, just enough to cover well. Allow the masking fluid to dry naturally.
