IFC takes a holistic approach—from ecosystem
building to investing directly in ventures, VC and PE
funds—with the goal of eventually scaling business
models with significant impact. We believe that PE
funds are in a unique position to support small and
medium size businesses to drive innovation, improve
productivity, create sustainable jobs and ultimately
drive economic growth. The industry needs a
combination of instruments such as commercial and
concessional capital, and technical advisory services
to achieve this objective. Given the challenging fund-
raising environment for private equity in Africa,
development finance institutions like IFC, can help
ensure that strong local private equity players can
maintain fundraising traction and raise sufficiently
sized funds. This conference can highlight
opportunities for PE funds in Nigeria to do even more
to support companies that can disrupt, innovate and
create sustainable development impact.
