❖ Students will take SAM 2019 Pre-Assessment Tests on Word, textbook Modules 1-3 and textbook PowerPoint, Modules 1-2 to determine their proficiency in using Word and PowerPoint. Students who score less than 80% on the Word exam will be required to complete the Word Capstone Project. Students who score less than 80% on the PowerPoint exam will be required to complete SAM projects for PowerPoint, textbook Modules 1 & 2. All examinations in this course must be closed book.
❖ Students will take a SAM 2019 Office Pretest that covers all of the tasks in Excel and PowerPoint that will be included on the hands-on final exam. This test will be used to assess the students’ proficiency in applications before and after taking MCON 140. All examinations in this course must be closed book.
❖ SAM 2019 Exam covering Excel, textbook Modules 1-4 and PowerPoint textbook modules 3&7. All examinations in this course must be closed book.
❖ Lab Exercises – Excel, PowerPoint, and Website Creation, capstone PowerPoint Presentation
❖ Internet Research and Weekly Discussion Board
❖ PowerPoint presentation (10 slides) that includes a video narration on 5 of the 10 required slides on one of the assigned Discussion Board topics.
❖ Every section of MCON 140 will participate in Computer Science Education Week’s “Hour of Code”. The goal is to dedicate one hour to provide students with a basic understanding of creating an up loadable Java Script app, control a robot through a block-based app (in class attendance for this option), or create a Scratch based Google logo via a hands-on and fun approach. Tutorials and activities are available.
❖ Students will build functional 5-page website with WordPress (college supplied accounts) subject matter is up to the individual student.
❖ Cumulative Final Exam including Departmental SAM 2019 Final Exam – covers Excel, PowerPoint, Computing Trends, Web Tools, Hour of Code, Power Searching with Google.
Graded Discussion Board
There will be weekly (Wk.7-15 see Weekly Session Schedule) Discussion Boards during the semester. Students will participate in Discussion Boards, as indicated by the professor. Discussion Boards will be posted in advance. Follow the below directions for minimum required posts for each board!
The Discussion Boards are in lieu of written assignments. They are designed to
• Foster and develop professional communication skills
• To refine and assess both new and existing knowledge
• To promote high level reasoning and problem-solving skills
• Expose students to new ideas and viewpoints
Everyone MUST have at least one post by Tuesday evening of the week we are working in and
the two remaining posts by Thursday evening of the week we are working in.
A Discussion Board is a type of Assessment assignment, just like reflection papers. Questions or issues posted are based on the readings, personal experiences and expertise, prior course work and any other resources you can tap into to put forth your responses. Generally, students will be
