required to respond to a question or paragraph posted by the professor and will also be asked to respond to classmates’ posts. Specific instructions on participation will be included on the assignment.
Students responses to the questions/issues posted, and peer group responses must be meaningful to the discussion, and they must serve to further the understanding of the issues.
A suggested strategy to write a substantive response is:
1. Reflect on your peer’s writing - If you decide to agree or disagree with a peer's thought, idea or philosophy, you must give reasons why to justify your stated position!
2. Build upon it using your experience or additional relevant information
3. Go beyond to make a connection to a larger issue, or to connect it to the role of school leaders
4. WITHIN EACH DISCUSSION BOARD TOPIC, I AM CERTAIN THAT OTHER ISSUES WILL BE INTRODUCED THAT WILL EXPAND THE ORIGINAL POSTED TOPIC. IT IS THROUGH THESE EXPANSIONS OF THE TOPIC THAT MEANINGFUL LEARNING AND A SHARING OF IDEAS COME TO THE FOREFRONT. THE COURSE WILL REACH A LEVEL OF GREAT INTENSITY IF YOU ARE WILLING TO PUT YOURSELF OUT THERE IN THESE DISCUSSIONS.
The responses have to be at least one paragraph (five sentences), well-constructed, following the rules of Standard English grammar, usage and spelling. If a student is quoting or using another author as reference this must be indicated.
Students will have to complete their participation on the Discussion Board by the due date. Late responses will impact on the ability of peers to complete their assignments. Late responses will be graded but will result in deductions from the score. I will be monitoring the number of times you post (your initial post and response to 2 other classmates 3 in total) and the amount of time spent. If you wait until the last day and hour to post, your grade will reflect that. You will get much better results if you can offer and receive ideas, strategies, plans, experiences, etc. from your colleagues to posts.
