figure and must be treated as such. It also creates an environment of respect, and
allows learners the safety of knowing that they are contained. Discipline for power is
destructive and eventually stops working, but discipline for respect (of people and
education) is garnered through communicated boundaries.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I think that an ideal teacher for Maryvale is one who is vibrant, open,
passionate and strong. She is someone who relates to learners on a personal, human
level, but still demands and expects excellence in the classroom. Excellence, like the
concept of ‘ideal’ is subjective and differs between people. This is important for an
ideal teacher to remember, as one learners excelling is another’s poor performance.
Judging learners on their capabilities will aid an ideal teacher in helping his/her
progression, as the burden of unfair expectations and responsibilities will be lifted,
allowing the learner to focus on personal growth and development. Ultimately, the
ideal teacher for this school is one who teaches because she loves learning, and
imparting knowledge, and sees herself as a guide for others to reach their own
potential.
