This Batak Pustaha is made of banbu. This bamboo library is a silent witness that describes
the high Batak culture, inscribed on the hundreds of years old bark that is timeless. Contains
writings in Batak script about Batak Customary Rules. Recently this library is in the Museum
Collection of the Jakarta National Library.
6. Perminaken
It is often the case, where imported ceramic vessels are covered or plugged with locally
carved wood, such vessels are mainly used for growing pukpuk, a very powerful magical substance
usually obtained from a victim of compassion who was ritually killed. Pukpuk is used to enliven
sacred objects, such as ritual sticks or human figures, then applied to surfaces or inserted into holes
in objects which are later propagated to seal inner power.
The stopper of this receptacle depicts a rider riding a magical beast known as a lion. Often
combining the romances of horses, snakes, buffalo, big cat predators, and other animals, lions are
extraordinary creatures of combination who served as supernatural protectors and were associated
with the nobility.
7. Arrow Single Stick
