The McDonalds Sponsorship of the Late 90s-Early 2000s Can Still be Spotted in DinoLand
You may have spotted the red, white, and yellow pipes in the queue for the DINOSAUR, they contain the chemical elements for ketchup, mayo, and mustard, and are a reference to McDonalds’ presence in the parks in years past. Another nod to McDonalds can actually be found inside Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures. Next time you’re doing some shopping, see if you can find the McDonalds bag.
When in Florida, Be Sure to Visit Epcot
No, really...we’re serious. A series of signs reading this very phrase can be found hanging above the entrance to Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures (from the door facing Primeval Whirl). When we mentioned that this shop was full of fun details and nods to “roadside” attractions (and Spaceship Earth is one heck of a roadside attraction if I do say so myself) we weren’t kidding. While searching for all the hidden details in the store and around Dino-Rama in general don’t forget to look up.
How Does Dino-Rama Fit the Theme of Disney’s Animal Kingdom?
It may seem strange to think of a theme park as an attraction that would come with a set mission in mind, but with its AZA (Association of Zoos & Aquariums) accreditation, Animal Kingdom actually does have a specific goal for educating guests: conservation. Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama and DinoLand fits the mission because they serve to educate Guests about extinction. While subtle, Guests can get some of these ideas from the decor in Dino- Rama that features dinosaurs running from arriving meteors. The best example of this mission however is over at the DINOSAUR attraction. When you exit into the gift shop, take a look at the mural on the wall opposite the photo screens. The mural shows a timeline of extinction with dinosaurs on one end and endangered species of today on the other, stressing the importance of conservation in saving animals around the world.
