As President of the national University of Bahrain, I am honored and pleased
to welcome you to the first international conference on foundation programs,
Foundation Programs in Higher Education: Gateway to Success.
As the host of this conference, the university takes great pride in pioneering
the effort to escalate the importance of foundation programs in higher
education. The university has placed great significance on the English
language in its foundation program, acknowledging the role of the language
as the key to success for graduates in the 21st century.
This conference has invited international keynote speakers and selected
presenters to share their research and best practices in foundation programs.
Additionally, I am pleased to note the participation of academic practitioners
from higher education institutions in Bahrain and the region. This reflects the
university’s commitment to the Kingdom of Bahrain and the GCC in establish-
ing its reputable role as a world class institution.
I trust that the areas and issues addressed in relation to foundation programs
during this conference will culminate in scholarly partnership and future
collaborations. I strongly believe that the proceedings of this conference will
benefit and enrich the professional development of its participants.
Finally, I would like to thank the organizing committee for their dedication,
hard work and commitment towards this conference. I would also like to
recognize and extend my gratitude to our sponsors, exhibitors, speakers,
presenters and all the participants for making this conference a successful
event. It is my hope that, as you enjoy this fruitful professional opportunity,
you will also be able to enjoy the warm hospitality of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Prof. Riyad Y Hamzah
