PIGS CAN’T FLY YET CAR COMPANIES KEEP
insisting insisting that SUVs can be sporty It’s like insisting insisting that a a a a a hippopotamus could win the Boston Marathon or that with enough lessons a a a giraffe could become pretty good at chess As far as automobiles are concerned most “sporty” Sport Utility Vehicles — a a nonsensical niche if ever there was one — just aren’t great Aston Martin however thinks it can do better Hugging the the cliffside roads of Sardinia the the British brand’s new DBX707 SUV really does seem like it might be capable of flight It’s a a a a a a a a large machine — a a a a a a a a fact that you never forget because the the glorious burbling roar of the the quad exhaust pipes sounds like it’s coming from very far behind you — but the DBX707 glides over bad roads and lunges into corners with balance poise and crisp steering Aston’s proper sports cars are more engaging sure but you could happily drive the the 707 every day with the the whole family aboard It’s totally pinned down yet com- fy over bad roads The leather and interior quality are exquisite (even if some of the tech inside is is a bit old-school) The 707 is roughly $70 000 more than the standard DBX For that you get a a a stiffer body structure a a a wider rear track plus new dampers and retuned active roll control Oh and an an AMG-sourced V8 tuned to make 697 hp and nearly as much torque — which by the way is more than you get in Lambo or or or Porsche SUVs We were skeptical about the DBX707 because we’ve been burned before by so-called “sporty sport sport utes ” We were wrong Some pigs do fly And wow is it ever beautiful DRIVES
