HARDWARE UPDATE
THE NEW TISSOT T-TOUCH CONNECT SPORT BLENDS WEARABLE TECHNOLOGY WITH A CLASSIC SWISS DESIGN
By Jeremy Freed
THE NEW TISSOT T-TOUCH CONNECT SPORT IS A BRIDGE
between two worlds. With the looks of a classic Swiss sports watch and the enhanced functionality of a next-gen connected watch, it’s both a stylish accessory for modern life and a high-tech tool for getting the most out of your day. The Tissot T-Touch Connect Sport makes a strong statement on the wrist with a 43 mm case made of titanium or PVD-coated stainless steel, with a combination of brushed and polished finishing, an ultra-durable ceramic bezel, and Super-LumiNova coating on the hands for enhanced low-light visibility. Beneath its clean analog dial, however, is an advanced suite of technology compatible with most iOS, Android, and Harmony devices that’s ready to assist with everything from gym workouts and wellness to keeping calendar notifications and text alerts.
The new T-Touch Connect Sport is the latest in a long tradition of Tissot watches that has made the brand one of the world’s most respected Swiss watchmakers since 1853. In the 19th century, this meant creating stylish yet affordable pocket watches with useful features such as dual time zones. In the 20th century, Tissot pioneered anti-magnetic movements and became a leader in motorsports chronographs. At the dawn of the 21st century in 1999, Tissot moved the needle once again by introducing the T-Touch, a
new breed of timepiece with a touch-sensitive sapphire crystal that could control a range of functions. The new Tissot T-Touch Connect Sport continues this evolution with a range of sporty looks, intelligent features, and a new solar-powered movement.
The T-Touch Connect Sport contains a Swiss quartz movement that’s powered by a battery, but unlike previous versions, it can be recharged solely by light. A set of high-performance solar cells on the watch dial captures enough light to keep the watch running infinitely in watch mode, up to six months in standard connected mode, and up to three months in sport connected mode with as little as 20 minutes of sunlight charging each day.
From tracking workouts to receiving notifications, the T-Touch Connect Sport is a high-tech tool for wellness and connectivity. Using the tactile sapphire glass and pushers, users can control a wide range of functions for workouts, including tracking distance, speed, heart rate, and calorie consumption. An integrated "Stats" feature offers a deeper dive into your workouts, with graphs to track your performance and visualize your gains via a smartphone app.
Intended to enhance the capabilities of your smartphone, not replace it, the T-Touch Connect Sport integrates notifications for incoming calls, active timers, alarms, and reminders via its bright and colourful AMOLED display. Unlike other wearables, however, these notifications are subtly integrated into the analog display, which maintains the T-Touch Connect Sport’s classic Swiss looks. With materials including black PVD, rose gold PVD, and titanium available for the case, and a selection of colour-matched ceramic bezels in blue, black, and brown, there’s a T-Touch Connect Sport to suit any style. In addition to a selection of colourful silicone straps, the option of a titanium bracelet and a quick-release bracelet system allows the T-Touch Connect Sport to seamlessly transition from gym to office to evening.
The T-Touch Connect Sport represents the latest evolution of Tissot’s remarkable tactile sapphire crystal design, but that doesn’t mean it won’t continue to improve. Both the app and watch are enabled to receive updates that will enhance existing features and introduce new functionalities as they are developed, ensuring that the T-Touch Connect Sport will remain a leading-edge tool — and a stylish accessory — for many years to come.
