History Unfolding
Rome
Fendi’s Spring/Summer 2022 haute couture collection draws upon ancient Roman
history and looks to the future to bring opulent fabrics and modern craftsmanship to life. Kim Jones, Fendi’s artistic director of couture and womenswear, gleaned inspiration from the divine purity and celestial power of Rome, honouring the city and its timelessness. The outing brought together materials that perfectly balance both past and present: duchesse silk and organza adorned with traditional beadwork that emphasizes Rome’s ecclesiastical history, and heat-molded leather, micro sequins, mink, and pearls that demonstrate the brand’s contemporary savoir faire. Rome’s archaeological remnants, such as volcanic stone and hematite, were set into bags, while natural crystal geodes and amethyst were used for the jewellery. To showcase the collection, an elaborate lighting installation evoking ancient architecture was suspended in mid-air, creating a decidedly sci-fi feel as the models strutted down the runway in these meticulously crafted Fendi fineries.
Stimulating Synergy
Los Angeles
The seventh iteration of Prada Mode was held on February 16 and 17, bringing
together an experience that included art, sound, and dining. Held at Genghis Cohen in Los Angeles, the event featured HelLa World—an immersive installation by conceptual artist Martine Syms that included live performance, narrative exposition, and casual conversations with a stranger. Attendees such as Jeff Goldblum, Gabrielle Union, and Rashida Jones participated in the performance by contributing messages, gossip, and status updates that were then displayed on the wraparound monitors serving as the centre of the installation. This two-day travelling social club also featured live sets by DJs such as Junglepussy, Bianca Lexis, Harriet Brown, and Damar Davis, which complemented the environment established by Syms.
