Page 5 - Florida Pest Control Examinations
P. 5
INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the pest control business. The study of this book in preparation for your
exam will help you in undertaking one of the most important and interesting professions
in the world.
Your responsibility will be to protect your customer’s homes and businesses from
annoying, noxious, or harmful pests that may invade or threaten their lives. You must
use your knowledge and experience to determine where the pest is coming from, why it is
there, and what sustenance is maintaining it.
Understanding the Florida State Statutes and Rules passed by the State Legislature, and
how they will be enforced, is necessary to pass your test. The Statutes (laws) are in the
first section (starting on page 1), and the Rules are in the second section (starting on page
59). They are cross-referenced to show the relationship between the Statutes and the
Rules used to enforce them.
Finally, the general characteristics and biology of various common insects are
prominently included throughout the text. We have used pictures and drawings of many
insects and the damage that some cause to feature the situations that a technician will
probably face in the field. We have purposely not dealt with controls or how to do the
job—that will be up to the individual company methodology.
This manual is copyrighted by ASA in the portions added to the actual Florida State
Statutes and Rules, including but not limited to drawings, photographs, illustrations, and
added text and highlighting including page numbering, otherwise the actual laws and
rules remain in the public domain.
