   Chapter 4
It was Sunday evening and the sun sank lower into the sky with the light of day draining away giving way to the dark, cold night. At this time, a young lady named Gardenella was watering her garden where she laid herbs and spices and her most favourited fruit trees. The air became cooler and twilight had fallen. Soon it grew darker and Gardenella made her way inside her home. From the outside her house was a traditional Caribbean home built with concrete blocks, painted in bright orange with tall squared windows to let in plenty of natural light. Gardenella skipped happily into her home. Her feet slapped against the stone pathway that led to her front door. The metal doorknob was cool against her palm as she twisted it to enter the livingroom. awelcomemat,hand-weavedby Gardenella’s mother sat still against the white tiles while the smell of lavender and coconuts filled the room, painted in an earthy brown and covered in flower patterns.
