This scenario, that the skeleton has two roles, must be considered when designing a treatment process based on EEM )electron-exchange matrix(. The outcome has the potential to contribute significantly to the field of green chemistry, particularly to waste treatment processes. A better understanding of the studied mechanism would improve control of the heterogeneous processes necessary for cheap and efficient methods, especially those applicable in industries with the need to treat small amounts and low concentrations of toxic compounds, such as in the pharmaceutical industry
