DLYC Members,
Cheers to the roaring 20’s! I am absolutely thrilled that our sailing season is finally here. After a fall and winter of fun activities held at the club, it’s time to enjoy some fun in the sun. Our summer is looking packed full of regattas and events that we hope will bring our entire club together. 2019 was a fantastic sailing season which makes me that much more excited for what this year has in store. Congratulations to our sailors that traveled to regattas this past year and represented the DLYC. They brought home some serious hardware!
The DLYC hosts two separate regattas this season; the C WYA and our traditional C Worlds. These regattas bring in sailors from all over the Midwest to enjoy a full weekend of sailing and camaraderie. Help us welcome our fellow competitors, as the DLYC knows how to throw a great party! These events take many hands and many hours to execute, and we are constantly looking for volunteers. Any help is great help! Please contact me or our Volunteer Coordinator Jaye Sperling if you’re interested in assisting us.
2019 was a thrilling year for our DLYC regatta sailors. Many race wins, bundles of trophies, and lasting memories sailing against some of the best inland sailors in the country. Check out the 2020 regatta schedule and sign up for an event or 3.
Last year, the Race and Regatta Committee hosted a training event for our members that included information on Race Committee and how to volunteer on the weekends. Thank you to our generous members that volunteered their time to run our races! Our PROs, Official Scorer, Chief Judge, and sailors are very grateful. This year we will be working with a modified RC boat that allows our volunteers to pull anchors with ease. Thank you to the members that assisted with this modification. We have working boats and lots of wind wands to utilize this year! We continue to ask our members to join in on learning what racing at the DLYC is all about.
The 2020 year is my last season as DLYC Commodore. This position has been equally challenging as it’s been rewarding. It’s an honor to serve as the youngest female DLYC Commodore and I’ve had such a wonderful time meeting our new members and building lasting friendships with current ones. Sailing has been the most important aspect of my life and I feel so fortunate to be a part of this DLYC family. Thank you to the countless members that have lent me their time and support and a huge thank you to the entire Board, Past Commodore Jack Markwick, Vice Commodore Brian Buzzell, Rear Commodore John MacDougall, the Race and Regatta Committee, our DLYC staff, friends, and family. You all have made this an incredibly positive experience and I look forward to this 2020 season.
Cheers to you, DLYC! Man your boats and stand-by for yet another extraordinary summer.
