From the President
For my first Yearbook President’s Message, I want you to know how great it’s been to serve as your DLYC President thus far. We have loaded our 2020 Summer Schedule with Friday Fish Fry, entertainment and regattas; whatever your interest in DLYC, there’s something for everyone.
New in 2020
• Updated DLYC Website – features online billing and statements, regatta and event sign-ups, and an up-to-date calendar of events which offers reminder notifications. Thank you Richard Beers for heading up this endeavor – there have been numerous details to sort through to make this a seamless transition for our membership, and Richard’s follow through has been instrumental in making the update a success.
• New Swim Raft – kids will love the new raft with fun accessories. Thank you to all who donated to raise funds – the raft is one of our most popular activities for families.
• Upgraded Heating and Cooling System – you’ll notice more consistent temperatures throughout the Club; our kitchen staff will benefit from cooler air flow... even during our busiest dinner hours.
• DLYC’s Friday Fish Fry has received an update, too – in addition to the buffet, we’ve added the option of plated table service for Fish Fry dinners, per the request of several dinner patrons.
Updates for 2020
• Membership numbers continue to grow as our roster shows a record-setting number of DLYC members. A big thank you to Connie Hetzler for her professional approach as she highlights DLYC to interested individuals and adds new members to the Club.
• DLYC Board updates:
o New Position: We’re happy to have Jaye Sperling chairing the newly formed DLYC Volunteer Committee. Jaye will be in charge of motivating and coordinating volunteers to help around the club for everything from social events to regatta support
o Former DLYC President Ed Clair remains on the Board as DLYC Vice President o Tom Bransfield replaces Scott Hetzler as DLYC Treasurer
o Melissa Grzonka replaces Kelli Kiekhafer as DLYC Social Chair
• Our dining room and bar will be managed by veterans Mary Chiapetta and Terri Dahl. Joining Terri in the kitchen will be Owen Swearingen and a host of other staffers that will keep things running smoothly.
• Day Camp membership continues to grow – Monica Damrow has done a tremendous job of keeping our program rolling forward. What a great introduction our Day Camp has been for many kids and families.
• Bunco Night continues on select Wednesday evenings – it’s a fun and relaxing way to get your game on!
• Live bands and karaoke highlight the Summer Social Calendar – nearly every weekend features something different. Whether you’re a singer, a listener, or you plan to set the dance floor on fire, make plans to join in!
As a club, we’re lucky to have a tremendous membership of enthusiastic sailors and social members. We’ve heard members from other ILYA Clubs say “DLYC has the most fun...” which makes me proud. Let’s make it a great summer!
