PREFACE
In the past decade, two major developments have brought foreign trade industry issues to
the fore. First has been the increased dependence of organizations on information and
communication technologies, not only for key operational purposes but also for gaining
strategic advantage. Second, Introduction of GST, the whole business model for many
organizations has been transformed.
Most of the companies are looking for methods to update the working knowledge of their
employees to avoid unnecessary compliance related issues. Proper and timely compliance
of various legal requirements in their day to day business activities would avoid litigation.
This gives them opportunity to focus on their business rather than correcting the earlier
mistakes.
Various researches suggest that employees have started to think that updating their
knowledge is not only the way to grow in their career but also to retain their role in the
organisation. Hence, more and more employed people are looking for attending training
classes or seminars to sharpen their skills and acquire adequate knowledge on the subject.
Discussions with Customs Officers, Customs Brokers, Exporter, Importers from various
industries and students studying Foreign Trade gave us insight on the demand for this kind
of books and encouraged us to bring the book in this form. Our primary goal in preparing
these volumes are to update the knowledge of the executives who handling import export
trace and the aspiring students who wish to enter into this field. Hence, this book has been
prepared to supplement the knowledge of the readers who already have working
experience in Foreign Trade procedures and connected matters. It has been gratifying to see
the first volume of this book become a standard text and reference in the subject. This book
was extremely useful to the students who appeared for last year’s CBLR examination as a
study material and helped them to score high marks both in written as well as viva-voce
examinations.
We are deeply indebted to a number of Customs Officers, Brokers, colleagues and students
who have read this material and given us many valuable suggestions for improving the
material and the presentation. We owe a special debt of gratitude to, Mr. C.S. Narender, Ex-
