Jim Carroll (Principal, Connected Home Advisory)
Jim is an executive advisor providing consulting services in the connected home and Internet of Things space. With over 30 years of experience in diverse technology driven businesses, Jim is recognized as a thought leader providing his clients insight to the rapidly changing connected home market. Mr. Carroll’s presentation “IoT - Disruptive or Competitive Opportunity for the CE Integrator?” empowers the audience with tangible ideas and direction on how to get out in front of the home technology explosion underway today.
Most recently, Jim founded a series of companies focused on the modern connected home. Before Connected Home Advisory, Jim co-founded Savant Systems. Savant pioneered the modern era of software based connected home solutions. Prior to Savant Jim founded a family of companies, UBiX a server based home automation solution that was a hardware agnostic platform and the precursor to Savant. UBiX‘s sister companies, AViX Inc. and AViX Alarm LLC, where home system integration businesses used as the incubator of ideas for UBiX. Jim also held Executive Vice President & General Manager positions with P&L responsibilities at Lucent Technologies Inc. and Excel Switching Inc.

Paul Starkey & Steve Firszt founded VITAL MGMT for one reason to help serious CI owners optimize their businesses and build better enterprise value.
Their clients are typically $2M to $8M CI businesses in the US and Canada. VITAL is finding $100K’s of profit per client and helping them build organizations to support much higher sales volumes
Paul Starkey is a 22-year CI veteran that led a $50M+ control company, ELAN, from 10 to 150 employees growth. An experienced sales, marketing, general manager, he has raised venture capital twice, sold his business and been involved in several acquisitions and mergers. Paul has strong connections in the dealer and manufacturer related CEDIA business circles. His roles at VITAL include CEO, strategic planning, sales, marketing, social media, communications, group research, process coaching and event coordination.
Steve Firszt has 30 years experience in CE/CI is a former president of a multi-store retail chain, Good Vibes. He has coached over 300 companies in the CI space developing a proven, platform and model for increasing performance. Steve’s TLM (Top Line Management) system is the pre-cursor of the VITAL MGMT 2.0 system. Steve is an accomplished speaker, CEDIA volunteer and well known for his business acumen. His roles at VITAL include CFO, head coach, financial coaching, analyst, planning and client accountability.
