develop academically at different rates. It is crucial we recognise, in particular, that many of the essential concepts in the core subjects develop individually for each pupil.
At Seaford College Prep School we utilise a variety of multisensory teaching approaches; ‘one size does not fit all’ for our children! We use on-going formative assessment approaches to intervene in a timely manner with activities targeted at developing essential age appropriate skills and concepts. Interventions can take place within the classroom initially or if we identify a more specific barrier to learning, then more specialist intervention will be undertaken.
Tracking and interventions
Pupils are expected to make progress in line with or above their ability level. If progress falls below that expected (relative to ability) then teachers intervene with supportive strategies to ‘close the gap’ between current and expected attainment. For the vast majority of students these interventions take place within the classroom. A small number may need the support of specialised Intervention Groups:
• Targeted Spelling Groups
• Levelled Reading Groups
• TA support for Maths and English in Year 2/3 – 6
• Phonic Intervention Groups
