What do we mean by Progress?
End of Each School Year Expected Progress
We follow the National Curriculum for Mathematics, English and Science so that all our children can move seamlessly though the Key Stages up to GCSE and beyond, acquiring the knowledge, skills, understanding, fluency and confidence appropriate to their ability.
The curriculum is divided into years. Each year the National Curriculum defines detailed expected levels of competence for each subject, which we monitor and track carefully so that each child is making appropriate and expected progress commensurate with their ability.
Our expectation is that the majority of pupils will move through the programmes of study at broadly the same pace. However, decisions about when to progress should always be based on the security of pupils’ understanding and their readiness to progress to the next stage. Pupils who grasp concepts rapidly should be challenged through being offered rich and sophisticated problems before any acceleration through new content. Those who are not sufficiently fluent with earlier material should consolidate their understanding, through additional practice, before moving on.
