Progress Tracking and Intervention
At Seaford College, we aim for all students to achieve their ‘Personal Bests’. In the past, teaching staff referred to pupils ‘reaching their potential’, a rather meaningless phrase, unless this is referenced to the ability level of each child. We now refer to students making ‘Expected Progress’ for their unique individual ability at each stage of their learning journey.
During the Autumn term it is important for teachers to know their pupils well. We assess pupils to gather data on their baseline ability. This information is referred to as Nationally Benchmarked Data and is a measure relative to all the other pupils in their year group nationally (who have taken the test) – this is important because when students take GCSEs this is the group of students that they will be judged against.
It is also important that we gather information concerning each pupils’ current attainment in English, Mathematics and Science. We also gather attainment data on the development of the key literacy skills: all aspects of reading development; word recognition; spelling; reading comprehension and the understanding of written material required for success across the curriculum.
