                 Music Scholarships
The Seaford Music Department is
full of opportunities for the aspiring musician with a dizzying array of choirs, ensembles and bands to join. In our fully equipped music block, students can practise, perform and record their music in dedicated practice rooms, a recital space, recording studio and Mac suite.
Seaford College offers Music Scholarships to students who demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment and are willing to make a full contribution to the musical life of the College, including participation in the wide range of choral and instrumental activities on offer.
Music Scholars will receive a 50% reduction on any music lessons undertaken within school.
Music Scholarships are available for students who demonstrate potential in one or more areas of musical activity. Awards are made on the basis of an audition and an interview with the Director of Performing Arts and the Head of Music.

Being a Music Scholar at Seaford has inspired me; ultimately I want to go to the Royal College of Music or another Conservatoire. First I’m going to do Year 14 here. Not only will it improve my voice but it will improve me as a performer, as a person. I’ll get a glimpse of the real world before I’m back in the system. I’ll get the chance to keep performing here - in the choir and in musicals.
After Conservatoire I’d like to train with an opera company. Hopefully, the English National Opera. I’d start with small roles. My dream is to then one day move to the Met Opera. Whatever role there is – the chorus or the main role would be equally good.
The music teachers here push me out of my comfort zone but not in a forceful way. They know I can adapt to the situation. They give me challenges and I love a challenge. Ms Reynolds (Director of Performing Arts) asked me to sing
in assembly which was really nerve wracking. Singing in front of your peers is the hardest thing to do. Not everyone is familiar with classical music and so some clapped at the wrong time. I was pleasantly surprised that I wasn’t fazed by that. I have Ms Reynolds to thank for readying me for it. Even though I didn’t know I was ready, she did. It was the biggest audience I have had – about 800. Hopefully that will grow.
Seeing others perform also really inspires me; watching the scholars’ concerts is great – it helps push me forwards. Seeing others like me being passionate about what they do really motivates me. I sang with Gary Barlow when I was in Year 8, so about 12 years old. I was sort of star struck. Gary waved at us!
I am in the Chamber Choir and also in a wind trio. I play the flute. That’s been my longest standing instrument – I’ve played since Year 5. I’ve just got my Grade 8 with distinction. I practise a lot but I have a lot of fun practising. I still have lessons casually now to study new things – it also helps me with my singing. I also use it as an escape – it’s a great release.
I was in the Wizard of Oz as the Coroner of Munchkin Land. Then I was one of the sisters in the Pirates of Penzance but my personal highlights were playing Maria in the Sound of Music, Cosette in Les Miserables and Sarah Brown in
Guys and Dolls. All three roles and productions were amazing!
