How did you find boarding?
I came from Ukraine in Year 12
and I couldn’t have had a more
friendly welcome. I have made
some good friends boarding and
I really enjoy it. I have found it help
me balance my life, I now use the
gym in the evening, something
I would never do at home, and
it’s been a great way to switch
off from my studies. The food is
also really good and we get to do
a shopping trip each week, so I
buy snacks to eat in the boarding
house.
What do you think of your
Houseparents?
I got on well with both of my
houseparents. The relationship we
share with them is great. It’s not
like a teacher to student, it’s more
like a relationship with a parent.
It’s really quite relaxed, which
is nice. They have been a good
sounding board for me during my
time here.

Tell us about boarding
I’ve been boarding through Year
13 and I love it. I like spending
more time with friends. I exercise
in the morning and then head to
Mansion for breakfast, I like eating
breakfast with my friends! We can
use all the facilities like the gym
and the swimming pool.
Boarding is good for learning to
live with so many other people.
It develops good skills for the
working world.

Tell us about boarding?
I have boarded for a long time
at Seaford and I enjoy it because
I can get involved in lots of
co-curricular activities from
astronomy club to taking part
in productions and being in
the choir. There’s also help from
teachers if you need it when
you’re doing prep in the evenings
and that really helps. In the lead
up to exams, we’ve been doing
revision sessions together and it’s
helping me to get top grades.
Each boarding house has its
own feel about it and Mr Ashton
and Dr Pothecary have been
amazing houseparents, they
always have time for you and
really care. They know if I’ve had
a tough day and they always
check-in with me, it means a lot,
they have compassion for you
and encourage you to do work.
I go home at the weekends and
really appreciate that time with
my parents. Being away works, as
it gives me time to get my work
done. I’ve grown in confidence
in my own abilities – my mum
would say the same!
“A big thanks to all the teachers and staff at Seaford for the last ten years. It has
been a true home from home for me as I’ve also been a boarder – it has felt like
a real community, and I’ve made some lifelong friends. I have had the most
tremendous opportunities and have developed a variety of leadership and life
skills. It has been an honour to be Head Boy and I’ve loved every second of my
time here. In the future, I would like to develop a career in cancer research and
hope to drive development in this field.”
