Frequently Asked Questions Why do we need to renovate and expand the house? Greek life at the University of Georgia becomes increasingly competitive every year, and it’s important that we remain competitive if we are to continue to have a strong presence on the UGA campus. One of the challenges in recruiting new members is the current Chapter House. The current house is only capable of housing 18 broth- ers, and the chapter house has fallen into disrepair from years of wear and tear. The current house does not have a functioning kitchen, nor is it the most inviting of living situations. With the chapter size expected to continue to grow, it is important that we stay on pace and bring the house up to date with modern living amenities and an expanded sleeping facility. Why did we choose to renovate instead of build a new house? The feasibility study stated that through alumni contributions and pledges spread out over a 5 year period, we would be able to raise $1,000,000. To start the project from scratch would require much more funding that we are unable to secure at this time. These renovations and additions will not only increase the value of the chapter house, but will secure additional income from the increase in sleeping facilities. What will the renovations cost? The total cost of the project is estimated to be $1,500,000. We have currently set the fundraising goal at $1,000,000 to help cover the cost of renovations, with the other $500,000 to come from bank loans. What type of renovations will take place? The main focus of the renovations is the addition of an additional sleeping facility at the rear of the existing structure. It will be 5,200 square feet and be able to house 8 additional bedrooms, or 16 additional beds. The second step will be the renovation of the existing chapter house, which has fallen into disrepair over the years. The common/recreation room will get a full makeover in order to become more livable and inviting social space for the chapter. An upgraded television room, dining room, and common areas will occur, as well as the addition of a fully functioning kitchen facility. These changes will drastically improve the existing living spaces so that Lambda has a house representative of its legacy at UGA. Will the outside of the house change? Although much of the renovations will occur to the interior of the house, the outside of the house will be cleaned up with new shutters and windows so that the outside appears just as up to date as the inside of the house. What will the cost be for the members to live in the house?
