Frequently Asked Questions What is the purpose of this Capital Campaign? The Upsilon Chapter of Beta Theta Pi has previously leased chapter houses from other Greek organizations and, while they have assisted in Upsilon’s growth and success, our desire is to build a house of our own. A house owned by Beta will give the chapter added stability for the longevity of recruiting, academic support, and brotherly bonding. A chapter house means a central meeting point for meals, study sessions, and camaraderie, as well as a venue for critical business and alumni gatherings. What are the costs associated? While the house itself will cost over $2 million, the goal of this Capital Campaign is to secure funding of at least $700,000. This will be used in conjunction with a bank loan, as well as funds previously accrued by the Upsilon Chapter Housing Corporation, to pay for all associated costs with building the facility. How long are pledges to the campaign payable? We encourage pledges to be made over fve years. This allows brothers to stretch their giving level to the best of their ability. Where will the house be built? The planned expansion of the USC Greek Village will be located across Blossom Street. The land used for the Village addition will allow for the same proximity that the frst phase of the Greek Village affords, with close access to the Business, Public Health, Engineering, Science and Honors Colleges, as well as the Strom Thurmond Fitness and Wellness Center. Will my donation be tax deductible? Due to IRS Tax Laws, we are unable to make all donations tax deductible – only portions of the house that are deemed “educational space” can be tax deductible. To ensure we are able to use all donated funds effciently and effectively, we have set a tax deductible threshold. All pledges of $5,000 and greater, made over 5 years, will be tax deductible, to the extent allowable by law, and can be routed through the Beta Theta Pi Foundation for the beneft of Beta Theta Pi at the University of South Carolina. How can gifts be made? Gifts can be made by cash, check, credit/debit card, or stock.
