28 GATEWAYS | ANNUAL IMPACT REVIEW programming for all ages. As you read through this
year’s Impact Report, I hope you are as proud—
and as inspired—as we are by the Society and
Brookfield Zoo’s achievements, all of which are
made possible by your generous partnership
with us.
Thanks to your support, we once again
welcomed almost 2.3 million guests and furthered
our mission of connecting people with wildlife and
nature with exciting new programs, such as our
Penguin Encounters and Giraffe Feedings.
Inspiring our guests is one of our top priorities,
but it’s not the only one. We also seek to establish
the highest standards and best practices in animal
care, behavioral research, nutrition, exhibit design,
and much more. In addition, we create conserva-
tion leaders and future scientists every day. Our
teacher training and community-based education
programs and events reach more than 200,000
people and encourage everyone, regardless of age
and background, to understand the importance of
wildlife, nature, and the environment.
This year, we are providing a behind-the-scenes
glimpse into what motivates our director, along
with a look at our special veterinary fellowships
and opportunities for professional educator devel-
opment. We are also providing measurable results,
documented with facts and figures that reflect the
progress we are making on multiple fronts. As you
review this year’s report, please know that all we do
is possible only through your generosity. Thanks to
your memberships, philanthropy, and volunteer
engagement, the Society and Brookfield Zoo can
continue to offer the highest standards of animal
care and welfare, facilitate socially relevant educa-
tional and outreach programs, and protect wildlife
and habitats around the globe.
