IMPACT Fundraiser for Australian Bushfire Crisis
Earlier this year, devastating bushfires raged through Australia burning
millions of acres of land and killing as many as 1 billion wild animals—
including critically endangered species. Many of the animals that survived
were injured or orphaned, and left without the food, water, and shelter they
need to survive. Not surprisingly, the scale of the crisis overwhelmed wildlife
hospitals and rescue and rehabilitation facilities. They lacked the resources
they needed to save and rehabilitate the animals.
The Chicago Zoological Society issued a call for help to our members
and other members of the public. Our Fundraiser for the Australian Bushfire
Crisis raised $38,543 from more than 450 donors. One hundred percent
of the money was donated to Australia’s Zoo and Aquarium Association
(ZAA) Wildlife Conservation Fund. ZAA’s member zoos and wildlife parks
run wildlife hospitals and rescue and rehabilitation facilities in Australia.
The Chicago Zoological Society has a big “Thank You” to everyone who
generously contributed to our fundraiser.
