Fun facts: Bathsheba is our first binturong Animal
Ambassador. She’s extremely curious, and if she’s given
the chance to get up close to a new individual, she likes
to learn more about that person by smelling his or her
ears. She loves playing, and when she’s not out and about,
she likes spending her time in her habitat swinging from
branches with her prehensile (grabbing) tail.
About binturongs: Binturongs are listed as vulnerable
by the International Union for Conservation of Nature,
primarily due to habitat loss from deforestation. They are
native to south and southeast Asia, and are sometimes
called “bearcats,” though they are not related to either
bears or cats. In addition to Bathsheba, several binturongs
live in Clouded Leopard Rain Forest. In fact, two binturong
cubs were just born this past spring.
