government documents in there or something.” He continued, “And he doesn’t talk much. I’m not sure what’s in this dude’s past, but whatever it is, I’m sure it changed him forever, and not in a good way.” Laura looked concerned. Her brother reassured her, “Don’t worry sis...you know, I can handle myself.”
Laura explained how she had always felt guilty about not being in a sober enough state to defend her brother against what their father had done. She knew they’d never believe a drunken prostitute. She poured out her heart to him about the guilt she’d carried all these years. “Our father was a horrible man and I believe he went to hell for what he did to you...to us. My brother, I promise you I will always be here for you now and in the days to come. I want you to know that.”
“I know that sis,” he answered. “And I promise you to be the one you can always rely on, too. There is a reason God has brought us into each other’s lives again.” She smiled in gratification knowing she had reached, or rather, He had reached her brother. God made himself present in her brother’s life and she felt an immense satisfaction in the part she played.
