permeate her mind.”
Katie thrived in first grade. Our home was full of dolls, finger paint and children’s books. Some parents have complained about losing aptitude after spending extended periods of time with their children, but for me, it was just the opposite. Katie taught me more about living in six years than I’d learned in all the time I’d invested in a formal education. I felt Karina’s hand reach for mine as little Katie joined her classmates on stage for their first-grade graduation ceremony.
That was the year I received my last hug before leaving the house. At that time, “I love, love, love my daddy” was the only tune she still sang that repeated in threes.
