KEEP THE FAITH
Laura woke early after another restless night. She poured a cup of coffee and sat to read her morning devotional: “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” Matthew 5:43-44
Closing her eyes, she repeated the words trying to let them permeate her mind and heart. “Oh, God,” she prayed: “How do I convey this to my brother, Brian? He doesn’t even know who his true enemies are during this time? The police, who are only performing their duties? The prison guards, who are up against so much? I fear the world itself, including you, have become his enemies. Lord, he is a good soul and I know this to be fact. Please, please help him see the light and keep the faith. I know the truth will be revealed. I am torn up inside trying to get him to hold on until then — if we only knew for how long. It’s so unfair, God; it’s so unfair! You know I am devoted to you with every cell of my body. It’s not that I am doubting, or perhaps I am...I don’t know. I beg you, as your humble servant, please permit me to know your plan...”
Again, she began to cry. Her head was pounding from these many bouts of overwhelming despair. She walked outside to get some fresh air and saw the mailman. She decided to walk around the block a couple of times, before picking up the mail and returning to her apartment. Walking slowly and deliberately, she breathed in the life
