Why Me?
The minister was summoned; the man was nearing his last breath, as he requested The Last Rites
to prepare his soul for death.
“Before you speak the sacred words, there is something I must ask,” he muttered to the preacher through a misty mask.
“Why Me?” he asked in earnest, with no sorrow in his eyes, though the pastor heard this often before an imminent demise.
“Only He deems what is best and right,” he replied a practiced answer -- “and only He knows of the reasons why your body has this cancer.”
“Thank you, Reverend for your wisdom and your words are well and good, but I am seeking different guidance than what you have understood.
For I know I must surrender; to time, I’ve merely been a guest. I only ask ‘Why Me?’ to ponder why I have been so very blessed.
Though I’ve not had possessions, nor trinkets I could treasure,
I held wealth beyond words and riches beyond measure.
