Glimmers
We are often programmed to focus on the negative first, instead of the positive. Just like a weather forecaster will predict a “partly cloudy” day. If the day is partly cloudy, what fills the rest of the parts of the day? SUN! Why not just predict a “partly sunny” day?
I’ve begun to pay particular attention to the small, yet wonderful moments of life. I inhabit them and live in the moment as I let myself feel what I call “bursts of contentment.” A burst of contentment is a feeling of gratitude and appreciation...a brief and fleeting moment that brings forth joy and a keen awareness of our connection with the universe. Today, these little gems are called, “Glimmers.”
A glimmer can be anything from a special moment shared with your pet, noticing a flawless flower in your garden, a sweet smile from a child, an embrace from a loved one, or even reliving a special memory. It’s a sudden happiness that swells inside creating a temporary positive energy.
When you become mindful of these glimmers, you start to seek them out. It becomes natural to focus on the positive first, and have a “partly sunny” outlook. When this becomes a habit, there is a shift in your mental state that has a beneficial effect on your mind, and your health.
