The Bank
We spend money in accordance with what we have in the bank, and know how many miles to drive before “E” shows on the tank.
But for how we should expend our time, there is no gauge or account,
and we cannot budget days and hours when we don’t know the amount.
There are those who watch expenses, conserving every dime,
but that plan doesn’t work when you try to save time.
We should use up every minute from the cradle to the grave,
for these hours were never intended to preserve and to save.
And there are no fiscal statements
to measure all we lose
when there’s no bank to hold the minutes we have chosen not to use.
For if there were such a bank with our minutes to guard
we’d know how much we have to spend on our lifetime debit card.
But our life’s balance is a mystery -- a blank check, not autographed. We can never make deposits, and we have no overdraft.
We cannot take a loan on life, or to time, go into debt.
So, let’s live this day, today, as if it’s the last one we will get.
