Later
Nighttime darkens another day, followed by another dawn.
I turned and winter was the spring. I turned again, and summer’s gone.
Days, weeks, months and years -- parts of life...assigned a name.
No matter how we may divide it, though, it all comes out the same.
For concealed behind the labels, there exists one simple truth: inside those measured blocks of time are the decades of our youth.
We let things that do not matter cause us worry, stress and strife squandering the only time we have to live this life.
We chase success and yearn for things to buy, to own, to use
until we learn, the more we gain, the more we stand to lose.
Obligations and agendas keep us doing what we should while leaving precious little time to do the things we could.
Two lessons that come far too late are the most difficult to learn:
• Time is not a friend of ours.
• Moments missed are not returned.
And the longer we wait to learn them, the regret is that much greater, that in the legacy we’ll leave behind will be the words: “I’ll do it later.”
