Top 6 Reasons Why Dieting Doesn’t Work
1. Weight Loss Plateaus
The human body is designed for survival and, as a result, is constantly adapting to changes within the environment. Diets are no different.
Let’s look at the following examples.
Does this scenario sound familiar?
“I’ve just started this new diet last week and it’s absolutely incredible! I’ve only been doing it for five days but have already lost 7 pounds! I’ve got loads more energy and my belly has gone from round to flat! I’m so happy.”
Happy Dieter
.....That sounds great right! But let’s see what the same person says one month later.......
“When I started this stupid diet, everything was hunky-dory! The weight was dropping off, and I felt so happy! During my second week, things weren’t so good.
The weight loss was really slow and I hit a plateau by the end of ‘Week two.’ During my third week, I started to develop cravings, especially for sugar. I then decided to eat a couple of cookies from the ‘forbidden jar’ and went to bed. The very next morning, I woke up, looked in the mirror and burst into tears! I gained all the weight back, literally overnight, and then some. I give up! Diets just don’t work. Period!”
Happy Frustrated Dieter
Weight-loss plateaus often represent the beginning of the end when it comes to dieting. Eventually, and inevitably, many serial dieters resort to old eating habits from then on (until next time of course).
