This diary, in which a real, dramatic, human nar rative unfolds, is
a small leather-bound book, with gilt on the exposed edges of its
pages, measuring 4 inches wide and 5.5 inches tall by .75 inches
thick. The brown-leather cover is imprinted on the front cover with
16 small fleur de lis (six red, ten gray) surrounding a gray crest,
under which is printed in gray: Five-Year Diary. Front and back
covers are slightly padded between leather and board to give a soft,
rounded, comfortable feel.
The diary is secured with a small leather strap, attached to the
front cover, which is missing its end: a bronze metal clasp that fit
