CELAL ŞENGÖR
His full name is Ali Mehmet Celâl Şengör.He was born on 24 March, 1955 in
İstanbul.He graduated from Robert College in 1973.After he graduated from
the State University of New York at Albany as a geologist in 1978,he
completed his master degree at the same university in 1979. He started to
work as an assistant in the geology lectern at İstanbul Technical University,
Faculty of Mines in 1981. In 1982 he got the doctorate degree from the State
University of New York at Albany. In 1984 he received the London Geological
Society Presidental Award ,and TUBITAK Science Award in 1986. Şengör is
famous for his studies on geology especially in structural geology and
tectonic branches.
He revealed the effect of strip continents to the structure of mountain zones
and discovered a strip continent and named it as Kimmer Continent.He found
out the ge ological structure of Central Asia and brought a solution to the
issue of how the crash of continents affects those countries.
