The Marriotts Ridge Dance Program, under the direction of Dina Reyes, gives students in grades 9-12 the opportunity to study dance as part of their academic program fulfilling either their fine arts or elective credit. Courses are structured from the county dance curriculum, a comprehensive document that enables dance educators to maintain consistency throughout the county while allowing flexibility in creative programming.
Marriotts Ridge High School offers seven dance courses including Dance I, Dance II, Dance III, Dance IV, Dance Seminar G/T, Junior Dance Company G/T and Dance Company G/T. The first four levels are technique-based focusing on various dance styles, history, choreography and performance. The G/T courses are for students who are interested in pursuing a more serious approach to dance. Dance Seminar G/T is designed for senior dance interns that are matched with an appropriate dance level to implement lessons and material in the county dance curriculum and/or aspects of dance production. Students may audition for the Dance Company and Junior Company during January of the prior school year. The Dance Company and Junior Company are performance - based and also meet as a class during the school day. Dance Company members learn and choreograph dance pieces for various performances throughout the school year, including performances in Disney World!
