ORDERING TIPS
Flexible moulding is easy to order when you have all of the pertinent information related to the profile that is needed, the application, and some simple measurements. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible and offer numerous tips, explanations, and descriptions to help make this happen.
Moulding Profile
Many profiles appear to be the same but are very dif- ferent. There can also be dozens of different versions of the exact same profile. We match moulding profiles to the wood counterpart. Every manufacturer’s wood moulding profile can be different and unique. There- fore, we request the moulding manufacturer’s name, profile name, and the “species” (MDF, FJ, oak, etc.). All of this information helps ensure an exact match. This information is critical because when the wood moulding and the flex moulding are mitered
together, they must match each other precisely to create a seamless, stunning finished look.
Straight Pieces vs. Pre-Bent Pieces
Does moulding need to be applied bending long- ways against the “thin” dimension of the profile (like a belt)? If YES, the moulding does NOT need to be pre-bent and a straight piece will work. Refer to the Style #1 example.
Examples: base shoe, base, base cap, panel mould, small cove, chair rail, chair rail backer, wall plate for crown assembly, jamb.
Does moudling need to be applied bent sideways, bending against the “wide” dimension of the profile (like a rainbow)? If YES, the moulding will need to be pre-bent in manufacturing. Refer to the Style #2 example.
Examples: casing, crown, crown ceiling backer.
Casing - Regular Radius vs. Irregular Radius -
Pre-bent in Manufacturing
Is your application a regular radius (true radius)? This simply means the radius is the same all the way across the piece (like cutting off part of a circle). We can pre- bend the pieces with just a few measurements, and no additional information is needed. Examples of this application are casings bent as a half round arch or an eyebrow arch.
Is your application an irregular radius? This simply means the radius changes at random points around the piece. This type of application requires you to provide us with a template. We will bend the profile around the exact template line.
Examples: oval and elliptical.
Bending Limitations
As a general rule, flexible moulding cannot be pre-bent smaller than three times the width of the profile.
