Radius Crown
Crown moulding presents the most challenges when dealing with radius applications. Crown should rarely, IF EVER, be ordered in straight pieces. Crown moulding bends at an angle. Therefore, ISR (Inside Radius or Concave Radius) applications require the bottom of the crown to be longer than the top.
However, OSR (Outside Radius or Convex Radius) applications require the top of the crown to be longer than the bottom. In just about all cases, if straight crown is used in radius applications (ISR or OSR), the crown will buckle and turn wavy while being installed. With your radius specs, we can determine if a part can be ordered as a straight piece.
Radius Corner: Straight – Radius – Straight
This is when a corner is finished as a radius AND there is a straight component on each side of the radius corner. We can only bend the parts correctly when this information is provided.

Barrel/Crown Above Radius Window or Door Dormer Window
This is when crown trim is used in a casing type of application. It looks like it is ISR, but it is OSR. This application must be specified when being ordered.
Tudor Style Roof – This is also referred to as a “ski slope” roof. It looks like OSR but is actually ISR. This application must be specified when being ordered. This application may require a template.
Barrel Ceiling – This is also referred to as
a “horizontal radius.” Anytime the ceiling is curved when looking up from the floor the radius application is OSR. This application must be specified when being ordered.
Special Radius Crown Applications
There are many special crown applications that we need more information and detail about to ensure you are getting the special, custom crown fit that you need for your project.
Unique radius crown applications that require some special attention:
Radius Crown Assembly - There are different components to a crown assembly and many of the
parts will have different radius measurements. Some will require being pre-bent and some will allow straight pieces to work.
