      SOPHIE EGAN
A new ninth grader, Sophie jumped full force into being a three-sport athlete, competing in cross country, swimming, and track for the Hawks. She sings in the Latin chorus and enjoys being part of the environmental club. Sophie was a year-round swimmer until a debilitating illness made it impossible to train and literally made it difficult to walk. She needed to use a cane for support, but that didn’t keep Sophie away from the pool. She joined the coaches on deck to provide motivation, technique tips, and ongoing encouragement to her teammates, earning her the Heart of a Hawk award that year. As a junior, So- phie made her comeback to sport and competition, running the trails and track as well as competing in the pool and making a commitment to regain her strength through regular attendance at Project Strong. That year, she earned the Warrior Hawk award for cross country. Sophie has faced numerous health setbacks with great courage, grit and perseverance, and continues to work toward a full recovery. We are so grateful for all that she has given, and continues to give.
LINDSAY FLYNN - CAPTAIN
Lindsay is a Latin lifer who got her swimming start in summer league and later followed her older sister’s lead into year-round swimming. She is a natural athlete who enjoyed playing other sports, including soccer and field hockey, before eventually turn- ing her focus to the pool. This focus has paid off in a huge way. Lindsay will participate in the 2021 Olympic Swimming Trials in the 50 freestyle. She was selected to be on the USA Junior National team which, in a non-pandemic world, would repre- sent the United States in international competition. She has committed to swim for a NCAA Division I power- house at the University of Michigan. There are currently four swimming record plaques with Lindsay’s name on them, including the 50 and 100 free and two relays, but she’s repeat- edly broken and reset her own high standard. Lindsay has nerves of steel and thrives in the big moments – she lists competing on relays and the en- ergy of the state championship meets as her favorite memories. We look forward to watching her tear through the pool on an even bigger stage in the years to come.
HANNAH HOLLINGSWORTH
Hannah, a Latin lifer is the vice president of the Model UN, the president of the Science and French Clubs, a member
of the Service Council, and participates in the Engineering Lab and Girls that Code. During the week she squeezes
in piano and teaches a coding class to middle school girls. It’s amazing that she is able to balance all of that with a challenging academic schedule and swimming. Hannah has been swimming with the Hawks for seven years. Free- style is her favorite stroke and she has been willing to try it in every distance. Last year, she embraced the challenge of swimming the 500 free and worked hard to improve her stamina and pacing, with a steady and strong improvement. The 200 free is her favorite and she has qualified for states in the 200 free the last two years. Hannah is a supportive teammate whose determination will serve her well as she moves onto col- lege next year.
