LittlePod Ltd
Wessex Water
Wessex Water has been awarded the Queen’s Award
for Sustainable Development for the third time.
THE LITTLEPOD COMPANY provides natural ingredients to home cooks, professional chefs and manufacturers. The company
was launched in 2010. The unique vanilla paste in an innovative tube has been hailed as an essential store-cupboard ingredient.
It’s sustainability
vision is embedded
into all business
planning, targets and
day-to-day work. The
award recognises
how the company consistently scored highly for customer service, innovation and environmental performance by industry regulators.
Wessex Water funds environmental projects, including improving water quality, reducing the impact of abstraction, and employees supporting community wildlife projects. It has also worked to reduce the impact of nutrients on the water environment and is studying the prevalence of emerging pollutants in wastewater.
Dan Green, head of sustainability and innovation, said: “We pride ourselves on going beyond ‘business as usual’ in all areas, from our work on social tariffs and debt advice to catchment permitting and online nutrient trading.
“This award gives us a great sense of encouragement that we’re going in the right direction.”

The LittlePod team.
LittlePod has trained and upskilled many young graduates and apprentices. With the company’s passion to educate people about vanilla and other natural ingredients, LittlePod has led the #campaignforrealvanilla, launching National REAL Vanilla Day (17th Oct) in the process.
Real vanilla, grown in the equatorial regions, is under threat from artificial vanillin that is prevalent in the West. In raising awareness of the plight of vanilla farmers, LittlePod has also helped to create a new determination to save the cultivation of vanilla for the next generation.

Founded in 1851 by Cornishman Walter Hicks, ST AUSTELL BREWERY is a family owned, independent brewer and pub company offering distinctive experiences to guests across its award-winning estate of south-west pubs and hotels.
With depots at St Columb, Ilfracombe, Newton Abbot and Avonmouth, St Austell Brewery is also one of the region’s largest wholesalers of beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks. The acquisition of Bath Ales in 2016 provided a platform for wider strategic growth in the company’s south-west heartland.
company’s awareness of its place in the local and wider community.
Chief executive James Staughton said: “St Austell Brewery is a company consisting of many different functions, including brewing, logistics and pubs
– all of them award winners in their own right –
but the Queen’s Award recognises the efforts of everyone at all levels across the business and that makes the award unique and very special.
“To us, sustainability is now second nature, as
it should be with any organisation and this award isn’t just about the honour and prestige; just as important is the added insight it can offer towards the futureproofing of the business.”
The brewery, which employs over 1500 people across the south-west, nurtures local talent and provides career opportunities through links with local colleges and apprenticeship schemes and remains committed to exploring new avenues to maintain the continued growth of the business in a sustainable manner.

St Austell Brewery has a long-term commitment to ‘green’ brewing.
One of the region’s largest wholesalers of beers, wines and spirits.
Although brewing is inherently an environmentally friendly process – using only
the natural ingredients of water, barley, hops and yeast – a company incorporating two head offices, three breweries, four depots, 178 pubs and hotels as well as a logistics chain delivering to over 5,000 free trade businesses in the south-west is bound to create a sizeable carbon footprint.
The presentation of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the field of Sustainable Development is testimony to St Austell Brewery’s long-term commitment to green brewing, reducing the impact of its business on the environment and the
