Richard Essery, managing director of Harrison Spinks Products, said: “Our aim is to make the world more comfortable. Through our export business of selling our unique components, machinery and Yorkshire-grown fillings around the world, we’re making this a reality.
“As a proud British manufacturer, we’re pleased that our place in the international market has been acknowledged by a Queen’s Award for International Trade. We feel that our British values of innovation and quality have truly set us up for success in a global marketplace.”
The Leeds-based company has been awarded both a Queen’s Award for Innovation and one for International Trade in the 2018 awards.

HARRISON SPINKS is a fifth-generation family- owned and run business dating back to 1840. The company is known as one of the most vertically integrated bed manufacturers in the world – drawing its own wire for its unique spring technology and growing natural fillings on its own farm in Yorkshire.
Harrison Spinks Products was established in 2004 to be the incumbent supplier of a range of components, including innovative patented pocket-spring sheets, 100% natural upholstery fillings pads and woven mattress ticking.
Harrison Spinks’ products offer a greener alternative to many items commonly used in
the market. For example, the company’s spring technology can replace foam and petrochemical materials with recyclable, glueless pocket springs. As well as supplying machinery and components to create Harrison Spinks’ luxury range of beds and mattresses, the Products division also exports to over 50 countries worldwide.
Harrison Spinks has three main areas of focus:
● Licensing: the license of existing Harrison Spinks brands, such as Harrison Beds and Spink and Edgar, to an international customer base.
● Joint ventures: the joint ventures allow Harrison Spinks to license intellectual property, innovation and expertise with the partner, bringing local market knowledge, distribution and marketing ability. Joint ventures in important markets, such as China and the US, generate profit which ultimately returns to the UK.
● Products produced in the UK: sales of
