SMARTSEARCH is a multi-award winning anti- money laundering company based in Ilkley, West Yorkshire.
The family owned firm has won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation for developing a world-leading anti-money laundering (AML) verification platform.
The founders of SmartSearch developed one of the very first electronic individual AML services 14 years ago, in response to the 2004 Money Laundering regulations.
Back then, regulating bodies and financial organisations did not recognise electronic identification as a viable alternative to documents such as passports, driving licences and utility bills.
But today, electronic verification is widely recognised as the most reliable, secure and efficient source of information for identity solutions. As a result, SmartSearch’s unique AML solution is fast becoming the first port of call for
accountants, solicitors, financial advisors and estate agents across the UK.
SmartSearch launched its current AML platform in 2011. Its principal
data partners are global information services companies, Experian
and Equifax, while SmartSearch’s automatic sanction and PEP screening is supported by Dow Jones data.

The company has already won five awards for its technology, and the 20-fold increase in turnover in just six years means SmartSearch was named one of the Yorkshire Fastest 50 growing companies for 2018, by the Yorkshire Post.
As a result of its success, the company has seen staff numbers grow from seven to 90 and it has recently relocated from its premises in Guiseley to a new, purpose-built modern office in Ilkely.
