Step 22: Keep a Journal Written in the Chosen
Language
Language learners improve their writing and comprehension skills when they
keep a journal. The learner should write in their chosen language, even if they
are simple sentences. In time, the learner benefits from journal-keeping by being
more aware of their own learning process. It is also motivates the learner to set
benchmarks for themselves to write a better entry every time. These journals
help the learner learn vocabulary and grammar skills as they are able to express
themselves.
The need to convey their feelings forces them to learn words and phrases in the
language that best impart what they mean to say. It is an established fact that
writing also helps memory retention. So learners will be able to memorize these
lessons quicker. Writing on a personal journal is just the same as speaking it. It is
impossible to write without speaking the words first in the head. In this way, it is
a comprehensive practical learning experience.
