The prison
About 7km off the coast of Cape Town lies Robben Island.
Now a World Heritage Site, it was once an infamous prison, SOUTH AFRICA
where former South African President Nelson Mandela was
incarcerated for 18 of the 27 years he served behind bars. Just
inland from the harbour on the east coast is the Maximum
Security Prison, where the B Section housed influential
leadership figures. Guards, other workers and their families SOUTH
AFRICA
lived in the settlement on the south-east of the island.
