plenty of space to download your photos, which may in-
volve a major deleting session before you go!
Talking of space, your images are precious. As well
as backing up my images to a laptop, I download them
to a Seagate One Terabyte (1TB) portable hard drive.
Don’t rely on backing up to iCloud because the inter-
net is not reliable in many countries.
One thing I like to do is have a folder of ‘selects’ – im-
ages that are a cut above the rest. For added insurance
I’ll email these to myself, unedited, in their original size.
This way I know they are waiting safely at home.
Memory cards are small and can easily be misplaced
while travelling. Some photographers don’t erase their
memory cards and keep their photos that way. However
I would always save the images elsewhere if you can.
THE ROUTINE
When travelling I’ve adopted a simple routine that
works well for me. First, I get up early to ensure my
