Q. I recently purchased a library table in the mission style made out of quarter sawn oak.
Questions & Kind of unique in that the piece is scaled down in size. Less than 4 feet long by 24 inches wide
with a 5/8 inch thick top and narrowish legs. These tables usually tend to be rather robust
in construction. The piece has a paper label that says "BEAR" guaranteed furniture. I was

Answers good many of these tables are, as you say "robust", a quick look through a Larkin Oak catalog

reveals a number of Mission style library tables about the same size or smaller. The #28 table
was offered in 1909 with a top 44 X 28in. The #27 in 1910 had the same dimensions, as did

with Fred Taylor in 1918. The catalog I was using is "Larkin Oak" by Marcy and Walter Ayars. You can get
220 50 the E170 model in 1917. But a smaller version, the A085 with a top of 34 X 24in was offered

able to find on "Bear" is the G. H. Bear Furniture Co. in Allentown, PA. It was in business at
least as late as the 1920s but that's all I can find. Thanks for writing.
