Most people have the same hair color of one or both of their parents, but this isn’t always the rule. You could end up with hair that is totally different, because one of your distant relatives has that color.
Your type of hair isn’t based on melanin, like color. Your hair follicles are what decides that. Their shape determine how thick your hair will be, and if it will be curly, straight, or some mix of the two.
Guilty Hair
Hair is sometimes used for solving crimes. Hair from suspects can be compared to hair found at a crime scene using a comparison microscope. Comparison microscopes are made out of two microscopes that allow the user to watch two samples at the same time, making it much easier to compare the different hairs.
The hair examination process is made up of several steps. First, it must be determined whether it is human or animal hair. If it is animal hair, they try to determine what particular kind of animal it is. Each hair is very different after all. Human hair from different parts of the body, even from the same human, have microscopical differences unique to their particular region, and to each different person. Think of it this way: you can tell your feet and your hands apart, even though they look roughly similar. Even a single hair on your head can give investigators a rough idea of what you look like!
